Tempeh Stir Fry

Preparation time: 45 minutes

Cooking time: 15 minutes

Serves: 1-2 people

200g tempeh, cut into 1cm cubes

1 onion

3 cloves garlic

3 kale leaves, pulled and washed

1 carrot, thinly sliced

1/4 red cabbage, thinly sliced

1/4 tsp chilli flakes

3 tbsp soy or tamari sauce

1 tbsp kecap Manis sauce

1 tbsp sesame oil5 tbsp water

1 tablespoon sesame seeds

1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds

1 tablespoon nuts (ie. cashews, almonds, walnuts, pine nuts)

Salt and pepper



  1. Make the sauce first
  2. Mix all ingredients in a bowl for marinating
  3. Add the protein
  4. Soak for 20 mins or longer (overnight is good)
  5. Heat a wok or large frypan on medium heat
  6. Add oil to heat up
  7. Add onion, garlic, tempeh (or any protein) with sauce
  8. Cook for 12 mins, stirring
  9. Put in bowl to rest
  10. Add vegetables to the wok or frypan
  11. Cook for 5 mins, stirring
  12. Add the protein with sauce
  13. Cook for 8-10 mins on high heat, stirring often
  14. Put in a serving bowl
  15. Add toppings and serve

Note: Protein can be tofu, chicken, lamb, pork or beef strips
