Goals for your NDIS plan

Our programs are designed to support people who are deaf and hard of hearing improve their quality of life and live independently. If DCR is not directly mentioned in your NDIS plan, we can clarify your goals in the following supports, to help build a stronger connection to diet, nutrition, cooking skills, and Auslan.

Here are some examples:

GOAL: I want to be able to learn and improve my English, and translate important information into Auslan

DCR programs teach you how to take recipes and information provided by health care providers on nutrition and diet, and have the information explained in Auslan. Learn how to understand cooking instructions, interpret food labels, follow recipe instructions and terminology, all explained in Auslan, so you can learn to follow written instructions and cook meals at home to lead a healthier lifestyle.

GOAL: I want to be safe and independent in my own home and in my community

DCR programs teach you safe and competent cooking skills in Auslan and help you to make meals at home and safely conduct yourself around the kitchen, as well as practice safe storage of food.

GOAL: I want to develop the capacity to manage my daily life and access activities of choice (also to reduce my reliance on my informal support)

Using Deaf Chef Ross as a service supports you in building capacity to manage daily life and meals and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

    ABOUT ROSS

My Food Journey started when I was cooking at 11 years old.

My mother worked some evenings, so when I came home from school, I followed her written instructions to cook dinner to be ready when she arrived home.

I grew up in Red Hill South on the Mornington Peninsula where fresh produce is everywhere.

My mother and neighbours all enjoyed cooking at home.

My father is a vegetarian, and he grew an enormous garden of vegetables covering half his backyard.

I also enjoy home-cooked meals, and my favourites are roasts, vegetable soups, and Asian-inspired dishes.

One of the first desserts I taught myself to make was a healthy chocolate mousse with only four ingredients: cacao powder, coconut yoghurt, vanilla extract, and maple syrup.
